Brief History
Tram 634, originally built as car 297 in 1937 as one of twenty Brush Railcoaches for Blackpool Corporation, operated on the tramway before being stored in 1974 and returning in 1976 with modern updates and a blue and yellow livery celebrating Blackpool’s centenary. It later carried various advertising liveries, gained a pantograph in 1986. In 1987 following a collision it was rebuilt with upgraded glazing and fittings. Returning to service in 1988 in green and cream, it continued operating through the 1990s. It wore the notable black “Terror Train” livery promoting Coral Island in 1996, before withdrawal in 2004. Purchased by Andy Ashton in 2009, it was restored at the Rushden Transport Museum with traditional interior materials and repainted in its 1990s-style livery. Donated to the Blackpool Heritage Trust in 2016 and later transferred to the Fylde Transport Trust, 634 if now housed and runs frequently at the East Anglia Transport Museum, on loan. The tram has become a must for visitors and makes a great addition to the site during Halloween events.
